SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE

Adventurous activities within Bridgend County Borough are generally coordinated by the Bridgend County Youth Service. They are accredited by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) and provide activities such as rock climbing, hill walking, canoeing, mountain biking and more. We recognise that many young people would prefer these types of activities to traditional team sport and we should be looking at increasing these options.

During the coming year we will work with the Youth Service to develop new sports clubs based around surfing and mountain biking. The Youth Service also operates the following programmes.

Get Active Project
The project offers more young people an increased access to sport and physically challenging activities specifically young people with a disability or have special educational needs

The Mayors’ Award
The Mayor’s Award is designed to provide an opportunity for young people between the ages of 11 – 14 who attend youth centres and organisations in the Bridgend area to take part in a program that will help them to pursue the Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities designed to support the personal and social development of young people aged 14-25 years of age
