P.E. AND SCHOOL SPORT Do you enjoy taking part in PE or games lessons or are you filled with dread at the thought? Would you prefer to be doing dance or fitness classes but end up doing cross country and feeling miserable? Are you a parent who is concerned about how often PE lessons seem to be cancelled?
Your School may need PESS! The Sports Council for Wales and Welsh Assembly Government realise that all young people can gain benefits from good quality physical education but PE may need to be very different to how it was 20 years or more ago. The PESS (PE and School Sport) programme supports schools and PE
departments with specialised training, modern resources and funding to
offer new activities or to improve existing activities.
What sort of things does PESS deal with? The PESS programme tends to look at specific things including
Using technology within PE
Outdoor adventure activities
Movement and dance
Gymnastics
Health related exercise
There are specialist resources being developed throughout Wales to support these themes
How does PESS work in Bridgend? By 2009 every eligible school will have had the opportunity to be part of the PESS programme. Schools generally work in clusters with the
comprehensive school and primary schools linking together. Each cluster names a partnership manager who supports all the named schools and
receives assistance from Sports Council appointed consultants.
